Red Balloon

The morning I woke alone, you were there
I played my violin for you in the dark
Deaf, you sang to me a black song
Serenading me with your inside-out concerto

The afternoon I learned to think, you were there
Each breath a resuscitated red balloon
The kind you win at a carnival when youre a kid
That floats away with the first thieving breeze

The night I died, you were there
Spoon-feeding me ironies and rain drops
Reduced to a humble puddle of humanity
Thirsty for your shoe

The moment you first saw me, I was naked
A different version of exposed in fast-forward
A me Ive never met, watching you wash me
My soul, a heap of dirty laundry
